A single mother who becomes the first victim of kidnapper Ariel Castro finds herself trapped in his home for 11 years, where she eventually becomes a friend and sister to two other women who are taken captive by Castro. (IMDb)
Other than the cheesy font for its opening credits and a couple of suspect action shots, there are few signs of typical TV-movie tendencies here. It’s a disturbing true kidnapping story captured well by great cinematography, good acting, and a well-crafted script that deftly moves through a heart-wrenching 11 year time span that’s capped off nicely by post-rescue scenes that show the complex emotional aftermath of the ordeal, adding extra depth to an already solid thriller.
