Liebster Award nomination #2

Received another nomination for a Liebster Award the other day–many thanks to Geeky Cheeky Always Sneaky! Check out her great blog!
The Liebster Award is a chain award meant to spread awareness of all the great blogs out there and build community among their writers! If you’re nominated, you have to answer the 11 questions given to you by the person who nominated you, and then go on to nominate 11 other blogs, giving them another 11 questions to answer!
Here are Geeky Cheeky’s 11 questions for her nominees, and my answers:
  1. Where are you from?
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, but lived in Abbotsford, BC, Canada (still my current home) since I was 10, so I would call it my hometown!
  2. First cinema experience?
Pretty sure it was the live-action version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas from 2000.
  3. Favorite genre?
I enjoy movies from pretty much all genres, so it’s hard to pick a favourite! But I’ve definitely got a certain soft spot for heist movies, schlocky alien/monster invasion sci-fis, and quirky comedies.
  4. Favorite franchise?
I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, so I’d say that franchise, even though not every one of the 8 films is exactly a masterpiece from a critical point of view.
  5. Remakes/reboots – for or against?
I’ve enjoyed my fair share of remakes (Ocean’s 11 comes to mind) over time, so I’m definitely not against them!
  6. Favorite movie soundtrack?
O Brother, Where Art Thou? is the first one that comes to mind for me, for sure. Love all the old-timey folk tunes!
  7. Guilty pleasure movie?
I don’t really believe in guilty pleasure movies, at least in the common sense of the term. If you like a movie, don’t be ashamed of it, no matter how many critics say it’s a bad film or whatever!
  8. A film that you have seen more than 3 times?
The aforementioned O Brother, Where Art Thou? is definitely one; A Knight’s Tale with Heath Ledger is another–which also has a great soundtrack, now that I think about it! Both such fun films that I’ll definitely watch again in the future.
  9. Favorite director?
Tough call again. The Coen brothers and Christopher Nolan are definitely up there, but I’d probably say Wes Anderson tops them both! His gorgeous trademark aesthetic is simply to die for.
  10. Favorite foreign language (non-English) film?
I regret to say that I haven’t seen many non-English films, but one that definitely stands out among the few is Shaloin Soccer. I don’t know if I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life. Grab a couple friends and some drinks and watch this film. Ridiculous and hilarious.
  11. Favorite movie from the year you were born?
So far I’ve reviewed only five films from 1990, my birth year: Awakenings, Back to the Future Part III, Flatliners, Ghost, and Goodfellas. My highest rated film from that selection? Goodfellas! A gangster classic I thoroughly enjoyed. Awakenings, also with Robert DeNiro (but in a much different role) is a close second!

And here are my own 11 nominations for a Liebster Award:

Assholes Watching Movies
Film Grimoire
media meum.
Reviews by Brett
Jason’s Movie Blog
Monday Morning Movie Quarterback
Movierob
Film Music Central
Gareth Rhodes Film Reviews

And my 11 questions for those that choose to participate:

  1. Last great film you saw?
  2. Favourite film starting with the letter F?
  3. Last film you cried during?
  4. Favourite vegetable?
  5. Favourite microwaveable food?
  6. Favourite actor or actress?
  7. Something you wished you saw more in movies?
  8. Something you wished you saw less?
  9. Favourite thing to do for fun (besides watch movies)?
  10. Favourite opening credits sequence?
  11. Best thing that’s happened to you so far this year?

Thanks for reading folks, looking forward to hopefully reading some more Liebster Award posts with answers to my questions soon! Cheers!

Joel
