Two childhood friends find themselves forced to become enemies. (IMDb)
The “friends forced to be enemies” premise would have resonated more if the film had dwelt more on the fox and the hound being both. As it is, it’s mostly forgettable fluff with a few good action sequences and hardly any humour, and with its unmemorable–unusually so by Disney standards–secondary characters and songs there’s not much to distract from it. Only the ever-so-slight side-plot with the odd-couple birds and the caterpillar ever really catches your fancy after all is said and done.
6/10Β (Mediocre)
I haven’t seen this one since I was a kid, but I remember it being far too heartbreaking for me to ever want to revisit. But after reading your thoughts, maybe it wouldn’t hold up as well if I ever decided to. Great work as always, man!

hey thanks a bunch, brett! yeah I dunno, just found it fairly bland compared to other Disney classics I’ve watched! I don’t have the benefit of nostalgia from watching it as a kid though, so that didn’t help I’m sure! π

Sometimes, that’s the best way to watch something. Nostalgia can blind you into thinking a movie’s better than it actually is!

I don’t think I can watch this movie again. I mean I respect it for a Disney animated movie, but its just so sad and heartbreaking to watch. I’ll probably cry again (I did when I was a kid). Good review!

I haven’t seen this since I was a kid, either! We had it on VHS. I was a sucker for a dog movie even then.
