The Half of It (2020)

When smart but cash-strapped teen Ellie Chu agrees to write a love letter for a jock, she doesn’t expect to become his friend – or fall for his crush. (IMDb)
It’s often awkward, and yeah, it’s partially intentional and matches the coming-of-age character journeys, but some of the quirkiness is forced, some plot points feel unfounded (Aster inviting Ellie), and the climactic church scene doesn’t quite land (the farcical gasps are out of place). All that said, the story is unique and wonderful and the cinematography is gorgeous and that makes for some real beautiful moments that make it all worth it (see the secret pond, the kiss, the train pursuit).
7/10 (Good)
