Checks all the boxes for 80s comedies (Stripes, anyone?): homophobia, female exploitation, rape–it’s all there and it’s all played up (unsuccessfully) for laughs. There are a few successful attempts at humour thanks to the misfit troublemaker vs. stingy authority figure dynamic but they’re scattered and the plot provides no substitute momentum (Hooks’ side arc aside: “Don’t move, dirtbag!”). Likeable side characters (gentle Hightower, intense Tackleberry, among others) keep it watchable.
